FORGED TESTIMONIALS.
ENGINEER-CLERK’S POSITION OBTAINED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 6. The story how James Garfield Heath obtained the position of engi-neer-clerk to the Kaikoura County Council by means of forged testimonials was related in the Police Court this morning when he pleaded guilty to three charges of forgery. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Heath was described as an electrical engineer, aged 33, of Palmerston North. He did not retain the position long, resigning after a day or two. Accused appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North on November 26, charged that, on or about February 10 last, at Palmerston North, he received a typewriter valued at £lB 18s, the property of Messrs Spooner, Ltd., knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained. Ho was further charged that, on or about June 21, at Palmerston North, he did forge a document purporting to be a certified copy of a testimonial issued to him by the Murray Shire Council of Mathoura, New South Wales,-on March 28, 1932, with the intention that it should be used or acted upon as if it were genuine. Accused pleaded guilty to the first charge. He was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour on the charge concerning the typewriter and was remanded to appear at Christchurch on the other charge.
