AMATEUR CYCLING.
EVENING MEETING. The Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club conducted another series of races last evening, at the Sportsground, when riding conditions were not of the best, although there wero a good number of competitors in each event, especially that for boys. The races’ were very keenly contested and saw several close finishes. The results were as follow: A grade, 1 mile.—J. Casev (45yds.) 1, E. Lawrence (scr.) 2, li. Astin (45yds.) 3, H. Essex (120yds.) 4; time, 2min. 26sec. A grade, 2 miles.—E. Lawrence (scr.) 1, E. Astin (110) 2; J. Casey (110) 3, It. Hollis (220) 4; time, 4.54. B grade, li miles.—A. Cochburn (90) 1, E. AVoollett (120) 2, C. Prouse (140) and L. Hayes (140), dead-heat for third. Boys’ race, 2 laps.—A. Johnston (100) 1, I. Prouse (scr.) 2, W. Best (scr.) 3, T. Goldfinch (100) 4.
