ST. PETER’S CHURCH.

SPECIAL SERVICE FOR OPTIMISTS. There was a crowded congregation at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Terrace End, last evening, when a special service was held for members of the Optimists’ Club. There was a large attendance of club members, together with the Board of Directors of the Y.M.C.A. The vicar (Rev. D. J. Davies) took for the text of an inspiring address on optimism the sixth verse of the 24th Chapter of St. Matthew —“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of war; see that ye be not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” There were many forms of optimism, stated Mr Davies, but. on examination it would be found that they were built on unstable foundations, and collapsed when the winds of adversity blew. Jesus was the supreme optmist, yet he had known the trials of a great sorrow. It was his faith in the Father that made his optimism stable. Likewise, if the members of the club were to build on firm foundations, it could only be by having an abiding faith n God and they were exhorted to mould their lives in this manner so as to leave the rich impress of character upon their work. A welcome to the Optimists and to the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors was voiced by the vicair who hoped that the service would be one of many in the future.
