THE PRICE OF BREAD.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln Saturday’s issue of the “Standard” I noticed, in answer to the letter headed “Is Bread a Luxury?” that the principal of a large bakery in Palmerston MortK says the price of bread in this city is the same as in other cities in the Dominion. That is not so, as far as Auckland is concerned, where I have been staying for a month. The 21b. loaf is 4Jd when fetched and od delivered; lib 2Jd. Loaves for 3d, 2d and Vienna rolls for Id can also be bought. The bread is very good. Cakes, tarts, etc., are also cheaper, and if shops are overstocked in the evening a notice is put in the window to show that surplus stock can be bought much cheaper.—l am, etc., E. C. BYRNE,
