BRITISH MEAT PRICES.
CLOSE WATCH BY COMMITTEE. LONDON, Nov. 23. The Minister of Agriculture, Major W. E. Elliot, announced in the House of Commons that the Government was appointing a meat reorganisation committee to deal with the question of fat stock, with Colonel Lane-Fox as chairman. A committee representative of the meat trade was being appointed to watch the problem of retail prices in connection with the operation of the schemes of meat restriction. The committee would consist of representatives of all bodies engaged in handling meat, including co-operative stores and big and little shops. The Marquis of Linlithgow would be an independent chairman. It was desirable, the Minister added, that the interests of the consumer should be kept closely in front of the picture and the committee would do that. The Government was determined to grapple with the problem of prices, which it believed was the fundamental problem to-day.
