GOLD PROSPECTOR.

TRAVELLING TO AFGHANISTAN. j Mr Gilbert Paterson Blue, a 71-year-old prospector, arrived in Sydney the other day by the Maj-ania en route : for Afghanistan, where he will search for gold on behalf of the Government He left his home in Scotland at the age of 18 years for New Zealand, and I has prospected for various minerals 'and served with many mining compan- ; ies in most parts of the world during I the last 50 years. He met a consul for Afghanistan in Quetta four years ago. He was unable to accpet an offer to prospect the rivers near Kabul, owing to a. contract with a tin-dredging company, but when this expired he accepted the offer. Mr Blue said that the country he was to prospect was rugged with swiftly-rushing streams. He did not know if it was gold-bearing, but the presence of the metal had been reported by soldiers. The prospector will travel to Kabul in an armoured car, as a protection against sniping from unruly tribesmen.
