METHODIST SYNOD.

Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Nov. 24. The South Canterbury Methodist Synod passed a resolution that “owing to repeated failures of the Legislature to deal satisfactorily with the question of religious teaching in primary schools, we are of the opinion that the question should be referred to the people by means of a referendum, and that a petition be presented to the Government urging that this be done. The Synod demands that the censorship of talking films he tightened in the directions of eliminating the worst type of poster as well as films.” It was resolved “that the Conference he urged to press for an increase in excise duties and in the cost of large public-house licenses.”
