Annoyed by his novel, “Storm in Oxford,” dealing with controversial iitpects of University life, Oxford under-graduates threw Tangye Lean, editor of “Isis,” into the River Cherwell. Lean stated later that a dozen men confronted him shouting: “You wrote ‘Storm in Oxford.’ It is a disgifsting insult.” ‘T was overpowered, thrown into the river, and swam ashore,” he said. Lean says that his rooms were often wrecked, and ho had received anonymous letters threatening violence as a result of the novel.
