THE PIG INDUSTRY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, Nov. 20. A representative gathering of pig fanners of tlie district met Messrs T. E. Roche (director), L. L. Lovelock (organiser), and W. S. Carter (district director), of the Now Zealand Pig Marketing Association, in Bulls on Thursday evening, and Mr Roche outlined tho association’s scheme for marketing pigs and pig products. Mr W. Purcell occupied tho chair, and the speaker was given a sympathetic hearing. At the conclusion the following local committee was appointed to work in conjunction with the district organiser:—Messrs T. Andrew (Parewanui), Geo. Young (Bulls), W. J. Guy (Raumai Road), and H. Mullin (Ohakea). with power to add to their numbers. A BRILLIANT BALL. The annual Bchool ball was held in the Town llnil on Friday evening, and in addition to an almost lull master of pupils of the local school, many came from Sanson, Ohakea, Parewanui and othor parts of tho district, making the function one of tho moat successful hold here. The takings at the door were over £6 in excess of those of last year, and tho financial result was very pleasing to the school committee, teachers, and parents and friends who had worked so hard. During the interval Mr J. Campion, chairman of the school committee, thanked all for their patronage and assistance. Miss Betty Muir, of Palmerston North, was encored for a bright display of fancy dancing; a spot waltz was won by Beryl Mnekay and Peter Anderson ; and the Monte Carlo by Oma Reweti and Meihi Brown. Mrs BallGyiner played most of tho music for the children’s dances, and a first-class orchestra delighted tho adults with bright, lively music. Mrs E. W. Smart is visiting friends in Hawke’s Bay. Constable and Mrs Larmor have returned from a short holiday in tho same district. Mr Geoffrey Whisker, who entered the pcetal service in Bulls (his home town) and afterwards went on to Palmerston North, was here last week bidding farewell to relatives and friends before departing for his new position in Whnkatane. On Wednesday Bulls and Marton Bowling Clubs will play’ a return match at Marton. Last week Bulls won by the narrowest of margins, and ttio Martonians expect- to avenge that defeat on Wednesday. Tho rinks will comprise three apiece, each player using tbreo bowls. This form of rink play is increasingly popular in this district, giving move players an opportunity to skip as well as giving all players more play, having to trundle three instead of two bowls on 'each bead. , Mr S. W. Ingram, who contracted a severe cold while playing bowls on a damp green in Palmerston North a week ago, has boon confined to his bed for some davs. Two local youths, Rex Homes and J. McDermott, are inmates of Wanganui hospital the former having broken a leg, and the latter an arm. Both aro reported to be progressing satisfactorily.
