SEQUEL TO RAID.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 13. Six men, who were arrested on AVednesday in a Chinese fruit shop in Pitt Street, appeared in the Police Court charged with being found without lawful excuse in a common gaming l ouse, while the seventh, Ah Hoy, aged 35, was charged with keeping premises as a common gaming house. Referring to Hoy, the Magistrate, Mr ’V. K. Hunt, S.M., said: “Only last week there was a similar case and these people are simply laughing at tho law. I will deal with him as I do with bookmakers.” Accused was fined £IOO, in default three months’ imprisonment. “He will be handy in the laundry,” said Detective-Sergeant Kelly in reply to a remark by counsel that accused could not possibly pay the fine. AVitli the exception of one man, who was discharged, each of the other accused found on the premises was fined £2 and casts.
