SANSON MAIL SERVICE.
ALTERATION REQUIRED. In reply to representations recently made to the General Post Office authorities for the establishing of a direct mail service between Sanson and Palmerston North, the Manawatu County Council yesterday received advice from Mr G. T. McNamara, Secretary of the P. and T. Department, that . the matter had been investigated and it had been decided that the additional facility required was not warranted. It was contended that untjer the present arrangements Sanson in adequately served and the additional expenditure required to provide the desired facility, especially at the present time when tne keeping of expenditure at a minimum was of the utmost, importance, was not considered essential and in the circumstances the request could not be favourably considered. Explaining the reasons for the request to the department, Mr A. K. Drew, the county clerk, pointed out that mails from Samson to Foxton, for instance took five days to go there and back if the daily mail was missed. Even letters to Palmerston North took two days to get a reply. ' The acting chairman, Cr. J. H. Perrett, said he understood that the mail service to Sanson had recently been improved to the extent of the representations made, but Mr Drew said this was not the case. The question was left in the hands of Mr Drew - to pursue further with the local postal authorities.
