OBITUARY.

SIR EVERARD IMTHURN. Received October 11, 12.45 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 10. The death lias taken place of Sir Everard Imthurn, who was Governor of Fiji, and High Commissioner of the Western Pacific from 1904 to 1910. Sir Everard Imthurn, K.C.M.G., was born in 1852. Ho was curator of tho British Guiana Museum from 1877 to 1882; Stipendiary Magistrate, Pomeroon, 1882-91; Government Agent, N.W. District, 189199; was employed on the Venezuelan Boundary Commission, 1897-99; was in the Colonial Office, 1899 to 1901; Lieut.-Gov-ernor and Colonial Secretary for Ceylon, 1901-04, and retired in 1910 after completing liis appointment at Suva. Sir Everard Imthurn did much exploring in British Guiana and successfully ascended Roraima, a mountain that had baffled all previous attempts. Ho published numerous works relating to his explorations.
