WOODVILLE.
WOODVILLE, Oct. 10. Mr W. J. McCarthy, of the Woodville railway staff, is on annual leave. Mr R. Jones, clerk at the station, is at present relieving at Ekctahuna. Miss Adclc Cornish, of Morrinsvillo, Waikato, is tho guest of Mrs F. D. Graham, Ross Street. Mr Francis John Kerr, whose death occurred last week at the residence of his daughter, Mrs T. H. Instcne, 25 Laing’s Road, Lower Hutt, at tho ago of 76 years, was a resident of Woodville for many years, where he was farming in Pinfold Road. The funeral left Holy Trinity Church, Woodville, on Saturday. On Sunday .special reference was mado to the passing of Mr Kerr who, with his large family, was a regular churchgoer, and in tho evening special hymns were sung. Building permits of a total value of £lßsl were issued in Wcodville for the six months ended September 20. There was a large attendance of interested ladies at a meeting in tho Parish Hall, on Saturday, convened for the purposo of forming a branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union in Woodville. Mrs C. B. Ball, who was elected to the chair, introduced the visiting speaker, Mrs C. C. Jackson, Dominion president of the union. Also present at the meeting were Mesdames Crowe, of Pahiatua, and Bicknell, of Danncvirko. Mrs Halpin moved that a branch bo formed in W oodville. Ihe motion was seconded, by the . chairwoman, and oarried. The election of officers, resulted as follows: President, Mrs ~ vlce " presidents, Mesdames C. B. Hall, W. Cinry and Gray; secretary and treasurer, Mrs 1. A. B. Sinclair. It was decided that all members present bo on the committee, witn power to add. Mrs W. H. Nixon spoko on behalf of tho Women’s Institute, and thanked the speaker for her address. There was a fair attendance m the balration Army Citadel on Friday afternoon for tho annual meeting of the W.C.I.U. Miss Worboys presided and voiced die appreciation of tho local branch of the visit of the Dominion organiser, Miss A. McLav Tho election of officers resulted in Miss’ Worboys again being appointed president and Mesdames Forrest, IvnowlesSmith and Taylor vico-prcsidents. Ihe positions of secrotary and treasurer was left open for tho time being.
