' (From Our Own Correspondent.) iUILSON, Oct. 3. Favoured with fine weather and a good attendance of members, the opening ot the tennis season at Alil'son, which took place during the week-end, proved most enjoyable. Mr D. Emms, president of tlie Milson Tennis Club, performed the opening ceremony. Prior to declaring the courts open, Mr Emms briefly addressed those present. Ho wished tho members good luck during the season, and hoped that good weather would prevail, thus ensuring an enjoyable time for members. The president called on Mrs Emms to serve the first ball, after which he declared the courts officially opened. The third court, being still in an incomplotbd state, was not used. Full use was made of the existing courts, and a friendly match was played between two teams, one selected by the captain, the other by the vice-captain. _ The latter team were successful in winning seven sets to six, many of the games being very close, and tho whole match proving most interesting. A dainty afternoon tea, served by tho ladies, was much appreciated. Tho detailed scores in the friendly match were os follow, the captain’s team being mentioned first: Men’s doubles: Brown and Leslie beat Taylor and Griggs 6—5, Donaldson and Dunn lost to Emms and Gilbert I—6,1 —6, Brown and Dunn lost to Taylor and Creed 5—6, Leslie and C. I airburn lost to Griggs and W. Fairburn 2—6, Brown and O. Fairburn beat Taylor and W. Fairburn 6—5. Ladies’ doubles: Airs Brown and Alias Fairburn beat Afcsdames Dunn and Emms 6—5. Alixed doubles: Leslie and Miss Fairburn beat Emms and Airs Emms 6—l, Donaldson and All’s Brown lost to Gilbert and Aliss Fairburn 5—6, Dunn and Airs Brown lost to Creed and Airs Emms 5—6, Donaldson and Aliss Fairburn beat Gilbert and Airs Dunn 6—l, Dunn and Mis© Fairburn lost to Creed and Mrs Dunn 5 6. Leslie and Mrs Brown lost to Taylor and Mrs Emms 3—6, Donaldson and Mrs Bulmor beat Gilbert and Mrs Donaldson 6—l. Summary : Captain’s team 6 sets, 62 games; vice-captain’s team, 7 sets, 60 games. Mr and Mrs L. R. Dunn, of Montreal Street, who have been spending their annual vacation in Auckland, returned bj the express yesterday.
