WOMEN’S WORLD.

Mrs W. J. Huston, of Feilding, is visiting Stratford for the celebration of her father’s 80th birthday. Mr and Mrs A. D Scott, of Tangimoana, have been staying for a fortnight with Mrs H. Scott, of AVaitolii. Mrs J. L. Perry and her daughter, Mrs Francis Carthew, of New Plymouth, have been visiting Mr and Mrs Wilfred Perry, of “Highden,” Awahuri. Mrs Henry Haro, of Feilding, is visiting her son, Mr Humphrey Hare, who has recently returned from the north and taken up a farm at Marten. Miss Sybil Haro is staying at Eketahuna. In recognition of the services rendered to the Palmerston North Lawn Tennis Club during her Residence j n Palmerston North, Miss Tfaggitt was at last night’s meeting elected a life member of the club. It was also decided that a letter conveying the club’s appreciation be forwarded to Miss Haggitt. The death occurred at Wellington late last evening in her 76th year of Mrs Soraphina Salelc, widow of the late Mr Isaac Salelc, J.P. Throughout the war period she was one of those who worked for the St. John Ambulance Association. She took a keen interest in her husband’s activities as a Justice of the Peace, and in connection with the Wellington Bowling Club. She is survived by her two sons, Messrs Louis and Victor Salelc. Mr Frank Crowthcr, of Wellington, who, with Mr Owen Pritchard conducted the Garrison Band’s community sing at the Opera House last evening, was the recipient of a presentation. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., the president of the band, presented Mr Crowthcr with a handsome piano cushion. Sent to him “from Cis, Mary and Hilda,” it was accompanied by a letter which was couched in very congratulatory terms of his talent and personality.

BUSINESS GIRLS’ CLUB. At the fortnightly luncheon of the Business Girls’ Club, yesterday, Miss M. Cooksley presided over a .good attendance, which included the president, Mrs M. H. Oram, and Mrs A. 15. Mansford, a vice-president. Apologies for absence wero voiced for Mesdames M. Aitchisou, F. J. Nathan, and Cooksley, Misses Carmont, Edwards, Abraham and V. Bates. Members were pleasantly entertained by Miss M. Peuketh and Miss Joyce O’Neill, who contributed vocal numbers, and Miss A. Varcoe, who gave elocutionary items. Miss V. Berryman accompanied the vocalists, and ‘thanks to the performers were conveyed by Miss Cooksley. CARD AFTERNOON. The final cai'd afternoon conducted by the Northern Croquet Club ladies was held on Wednesday, when there was a large attendance. The hostesses were Mesdames C. P. Nash, Galpin and Valentine. Mrs Kneebone won the prize and Mrs Eising received a prize for the hidden number. These card afternoons have been most successful and regret was expressed that they had terminated meantime. LADIES’ GOLF, PALMERSTON NORTH v. BUNNYTHORPE. On the To Matai links, yesterday, a team of ladies drawn from the Palmerston North Golf Club defeatod a team from the Bunnythorpe Club, Palmerston North securing six games to their opponents’ one, ono game being halved. Following are the results, the Bunnythorpe players being mentioned first: Mrs Jackson lost to Miss Jepson, Miss W. Robson beat Mrs McMurray, Miss E. Robson lost to Mrs Colquhoun, Mrs Temperley lost to Mrs Morrison, Mrs O’Donnell lost to Miss Day, Miss Gore lost to Mrs Hart, Mrs T. O’Donnell halved with Mrs Glendinning, Miss P. O’Donnell lost to Mrs Parkes.
