THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. An anti-cyclone covers eastern Australia, and is advancing toward New Zealand, but pressure remains rather low to the north, and the easterly type of weather seems likely to continue. Light to moderate winds and variable, with south-east to north-east prevailing. Seas smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Moderate south-east to northeast winds prevailing in the eastern Tasman Sea; seas smooth to moderate. Weather still cloudy to overcast over the North Island with rain ijj eastern districts between Cook Strait and East Cape, and at scattered places elsewhere, but improving gradaully fair to fine in the South Island, but cloudy on the East Coast. Temperatures moderate. ‘ DISTRICT REPORT. BAROMETER RISING. The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day:—The indications are for moderate, south-easterly winds. There will be some isolated showers, but there is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather. The barometer is rising slowly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—sft.
