WOODVILLE, Sopt. 26. Mrs J. S. Nelson, “Rosedale,” Woodville, is a visitor to Napier. Mis 6 Hilda Blakiston, Dannevirke, is making a short visit to Mrs Armistead, Hopelands. Mr and Mrs A. Black, of Wanganui, were visitors to Woodville for tho week-end and were the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Elder. Mr T. Herbert, of the staff of tho Railway Department at Woodville, .lias been transferred to Kopua, and left to-day to take up his new duties. Mr Robertson, of the staff of the Woodville branch of the Bank of New Zealand, is at present visiting friends in Napier. Mesdames N. Burnett and C. do Malmanchc, of Woodvillo, aro spending a short holiday at the Women’s Institute Beach House at Paraparaumu. It has been decided that the competitions for the handsome Challenge Cup presented to the Woodville District High School by Mrs J. Sullivan will be open to both boys and girls, and that it will include football, basketball, tennis, swimming, running and cross-country racing. A system of points, which will give an equal chance to both primary and high school pupils, has been devised. The cup will remain the property of the school, but will have the winner’6 name inscribed on it at the end of each year. A billards and snooker match was played at the R.S.A. Club on Friday evening between teams representing the Oldfollows and the honorary members of the. club for the McLaehlan Shield. Oddfellows won by 534 points to 494. Results aro as follow, the members of tho winning team being mentioned first:—Snooker: F. Mockie beat R. G. Smith 48—27; F. De Malmanche beat F. Kenney, 44—34; E. West beat G. McLachlan, 5i— 39; J. Young beat G. Hartridgc 32—27. Billiards: Mackie boat Smith 100— 92; De Malmanche beat Kenney 100—75; West lost to McLaehlan 69—100; Young lost to Hartridge, 89—100.
