FRANCE AND GERMANY
M. HERRiOT’S SPEECH. RESENTED BY HERR HITLER. (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright). Received September 27, 1.25 p.m. MUNICH, Sept. 26. “This is insolence carried too far. It is one lie after another,” declares Herr Hitler in ail article in the National Observer, attacking M. Herriot’s speech. He adds; “M. Herriot is trying to twist Germany’s desire to train youths into a desire for war preparation. “We are astonished by the impertinence and hypocrisy of the French statesmen who wilfully misrepresent the facts. In view of France’s attitude in the past decade it was a mistake for Herr von Papen to raise the question of disarmament with Paris. When the Nazis govern the Reich things will be different.”
In a speech on the eve of the meeting of the Assembly of the League M. Herriot said ho was glad that Franco was not tho only country to emphasise that German rearmament would ho a prelude to a return to tho world’s former follies. ‘‘Wo have another cause for anxiety due to the agreement between tho German demands and ‘the writings of an authoritative technician giving an indication that. Germany is seeking to organise a powerful army destined for aggression,” ho said. France, but for her good will, might still bo in possession of tho Rhineland, which was returned to Germany beforo tho treaty obligations had been retrieved.
