The Federal Government’s intention to reduce tho maximum allowance payable to old age pensioners by 2s (id to 15s per week having caused dissatisfaction within tho Government’s ranks, the Prime Minister now announces that the maximum of 17s 6d will not bo disturbed where it can bo shown that recipients aro solely dependent on tho pension, hut where pensioners’ children are able to contribute to their parents’ sustenance tho Government will insist on tho pension cut. It may also calL upon relatives to reimburse the Government for portion of the cost.
