THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST.
A moderate cyclone is crossing the northern extremity of the Dominion, while a westerly depression has crossed the South Island. Pressure has risen rapidly over the Tasman Sea. Northeast to northerly winds at first from Canterbury northward; strong in the far north; elsewhere moderate. A change to south-east or southerly winds advancing, however, from the south and becoming general in about 24 hours. Seas rough north of Castlepoint and rising generally on the east coast and north of Farewell Spit; moderate elsewhere in New Zealand waters. Moderate to fresh southerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea; later becoming variable; seas moderate to rather rough. Weather dull and in places misty; general rain probable with many heavy falls from Nelson and Marlborough northward. Temperatures becoming cooler.

SOUTH-EASTERLY WINDS
The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day:—The indications are for moderate to strong south-easterly winds. The weather will probably bo cold and changeable, with some rain, but conditions are gradually improving. The barometer is rising slowly.
