ASSASSIN PAYS PENALTY.

GUILLOTINED AT DAWN. PARIS, Sept, 14. Paul Gougloff, who assassinated President Doumer on May 6, was guillotined at dawn to-day. Crowds in the evening paraded the Boulevard Arago over tho spot in front of the Sante prison, where at dead of night the guillotine was erected. Gougoloff had no warning of the imminence of death until half an hour previously. His wife called to pay her usual Tuesday call, but was refused admission. Ho spent his last nigTit alive sleeping handcuffed in the cell which ho shared with another prisoner and in which the light was never extinguished. His counsel, M. Henri Giraud, entering the prison before dawn with a Russian priest and interpreter, said that the wife would claim the assassin’s body. A great crowd gathered in the vicinity of the prison at midnight, but only soldiers, police officials and those connected with tho case saw the gruesome scene closely. Gougoloff, in his last words, said he was neither a Monarchist nor a Communist and had nothing against France or President Doumer. He hoped his child, which is shortly expected, would be trained to follow his principles and ideals. “Forgive me, everyone. Oh, Russia, my country!” He died courageously.
