ACCELERATION IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 31. A further stage in the policy of the British railways companies of accelerating their services will be attained on September 12, when the winter timetables will begin to operate. The speed of the Great Western “Cheltenham Flyer,” already the fastest train in the world, will be raised from 69.18 to 71.3 miles an hour. This is the first time in railway history that a train has been scheduled to run regularly at a speed of 70 miles or over.

The London, Midland and Scottish Railway, which holds two European records for high speeds over long distances, will have five expresses timed at an average speed of 60 miles an hour or more, including one of over 64 miles, for distances of over 150 miles.
