FLOOD WATERS
MENACE IN VICTORIA. RIVER BURSTS ITS BANKS. SETTLERS MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND. (United Press' Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) lieoeived September 2, 9.35 a.m. MELBOURNE, Sept. 2. Flood waters are pouring over the Hume weir on the Murray River, menacing the towns and farming districts. Already the level of the water is 30 inches above the crest of the spillway and it is still rising.
All tho towns likely to he affected have been warned and hundreds of dole campers along the river banks have moved.
The river at Wagga burst its banks. The Gundagai district is also threatened. The settlers are moving to higher ground.
DANGER NOT YET OVER. Received September 2, 9.55 a.m. MELBOURNE, Sept. 2. The flood danger is not yet over in many parts of Victoria. If the Murray rises much more many townships will be in danger. _ A man was moving cattle when tho flood water surrounded him at Clear Springs. He climbed a tree where he was marooned for five hours before he was rescued.
