The superintendent of the Northern Wairoa Hospital, Dr. J. A. Marshall, reported at a meeting of the Kaipara Hospital Board on Saturday that five cases of typhoid fever had been admitted to the isolation ward at the hospital and four more were expected. The patients are Maoris from the Karakanui settlement, on the Kaipara Harbour. In the annual high schools’ Rugby tournament at Dunedin the Christchurch Boys’ High School team played without numbers on their jerseys. It is understood the numbers were on the boys’ jerseys prior to the match, but they were ordered to take them off. They were told that they went on the field as a team, not as individuals. “Is this your marriage certificate?” asked Mr Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court at Invercargill of a petitioner in a divorce suit. “Yes,” replied the petitioner. “Look again,” directed His Honour, “Is this not a copy of the birth certificate of somebody else?” The document was handed back to the petitioner, who admitted, after scrutiny, that he had made a mistake. “It just shows how important it is to observe the proper form of proof, when a petitioner swears that a birth certificate of somebody else is his marriage certificate,” said the Judge to counsel. The required document was then produced by counsel. Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure for influenza colds. —Advtl
