CYCLE RACING.

PROFESSIONAL EVENT. The Counties’ Cash Cycling Club held a race to Ashhurst and back, a distance of 16 miles, on Saturday. French, A. Jones and I. Jones were first away, followed II minutes later by Jeffries and Christensen. Jennings and Collins were the scratch men with Ganderton a minute ahead of this pair. Jeffries and Christensen overhauled the leaders at VVliakarongo on the way back and from then on raced together and in the final dash for the line Jeffries prevailed by a length from Christensen, who was two lengths ahead of the Jones brothers, who were followed 20 seconds later by the scratch men, Jennings and Collins, with Ganderton several lengths away. Jennings made fastest time, doing the trip in 39min. 20sec. Following is the result: A. Jeffries (oimin.), 43min. 29sec., 1; J. Christensen (SJmin.), 43min. 29 2-ssec., 2; I. Jones (7min.), 45min. lsec., 3. Also started: C. Jennings (lmin.), W. Collins (lmin.), A. Ganderton (2min.), A. Jones (7min.), T. French (7min.). Next Saturday a race via Foxton, Shannon, Tokomaru and Linton, a distance of 57 miles, will be held.

AMATEUR RACE. The Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club held the 15th Red Seal Trophy Race on Saturday, around the Feilding, Awahuri, Kopane and Kairanga block, a distance of 31 miles. Eleven riders faced the starter and the first to pass through Feilding were tho limit riders, VV. Rogers and F. Lima, three minutes ahead of E. Walker and A. Mutch, who were half a minute ahead of I. Davey. Then came H. Walker and A. Jennings, with N. Dixon and R. Walker gaining fast. The backmarkers were holding their own at this point, and the order of the riders was the same through Awahuri, with the exception of A. Mutch, who had fallen behind. Along the Ivopane Road, A Jennings had the misfortune to jump his chain. Then came Dixon and R. Walker. Around Kairanga, E. Walker and I. Davey were after the limit riders, whom they, overtook at the Kairanga School. Then came N. Dixon and R. Walker, who were riding strongly. The order was the same at the turn into Rangitlkei Line, with the exception of N. Dixon, who was gaining fast, but the distance was too much for him to pick up. The result of the race was:—E. Walker 1, N. Dixon 2, W. Rogers 3.' Fastest tune was put up by C. Hyde 79min. oosec., 1; K. Holmes, 80min. 7 sec. 2; N. Dixon, 81 min. 56secs., 3. The race next Saturday will be around the Sanson-Rongotea block, 35 miles, starting at 1.30 o'clock sharp.
