GOSPEL ADDRESS.

At the Orient Hall on Sunday evening an address was delivered by Mr R. W. Gillman on “'Spiritism is Demon-ism,” taking the following Scriptures to support his statements — Deut. 19: 9 to 13; Luke 4; 1 to 13; 2 Cor. 2:11; 1 Tim. 4:1 to 7. The portion in Deuteronomy, declared the speaker, gave strict instructions that not ono of -these nine things was allowed to bo practised among the Lord’s people—as each in particular was an abomination unto the Lord, and such that demanded tho carrying out of God’s stern decree which set out that He would cut them off forever, they who did such things. That Spiritism Ls a real thing was not disputed by the speaker, not by any Christian of average intelligence, hut because it emanated from Satan, the great archenemy of man’s soul, it was necessary to heed the Word of God rather than submit to the dictates of spirits who simply imjiersonate the dead. Both the Old and New Testaments abound with tho teaching that human beings may become possesed by demons, as in the case of the demoniac hoy and tho damsel possesed wisth a spirit of divination, stated the preacher, who aLso said that to-day the dying drunkard, the fallen creatures, and the inmates of prisons, etc., are evidences of Satan’s unfitness to have complete control, although at present he is tho God of this world (systems), yet his final doom is to be “cast into the lake of fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” That the Satanic host is a large martialled company is evidenced from Holy Writ, which sets forth, said Mr Gillman, Thrones, Principalities, Dominions, Powers, Archangels, Angels (fallen and a host of spirits—or—demons. The serpent in the Garden of Eden was the first spirit medium to be used, that Scripture records, and since then numbers of human beings have allowed themselves to become demonpossessed, as accounts from China and India show that demon-worship is largely practised. There was great cause for alarm, went on the speaker, because as there are about a quarter of a million congregations of Protestantism to-dav, generally speaking, four-fifths of this number are tainted by evil traceable to demonaic activities. Thus it behoved all who say they love God, those present were told, “to take unto tlieselves the whole armour of God and so be able to withstand tho fiery darts of the wicked one.” In closing, Mr Gillman said there was only hope for deliverance from such great evil by believing in the Eternal Son of the Eternal God, Jesus Christ, the Saviour, who shed His own precious blood to cleanse from nil sin.

A correspondent writes: Mr R. W. Gillman is a thorough student of the Word of God, of many years standing, and his addresses have been greatly appreciated wherever lie has spoken,' lecturing to a great extent in the Old Country. He is absolutely sound on all the great fundamental truths of Holy Scripture.
