LOCAL EFFORT.

Tho local corps of tho Salvation Army is opening a variety fete next Wednesday at 3 p.m., when tho Mayor will perform the opening ceremony in tho Citadel, Broadway. Many interesting stalls laden with novelties and useful articles are being arranged. A speoial attraction will bo a continuous gas baking exhibition. At night tho added attraction will bo tho large exhibition of stationary model aeroplanes, also insido flying competitions. One-hour programmes will be given both on Wednesday and Thursday nights, beginning at 7.30. Tho first of theso will bo given by the Orpheus Society and tho second by Mr Holmes Runnicles’s party. Mr Harris has loaned a splendid selection of anciont coins for tho curio room, and articles for this purpose from friends would ho appreciated. It is antcipated that largo crowds will attend.
