General Sanjurgo, the leader of the recent rebellion, was sentenced to death and General Hcrranza to imprisonment for life. A third officer was sentenced to 12 years. General Sanjurgo’s son was acquitted. General Sanjurgo will he executed within 48 hours unless the President reprieves him. This is only possible if the Supremo Court recommends leniency. The Government favours commutation of the sentence. Cabinet will meet to decide whether 1o recommend mercy. A crowd attempted to burn the car of Archduko Charles of Hapsburg Bourbon, who was arrested on a charge that ho was implicated in the Monarchist conspiracy.
