NORTH ISLAND UNION

REMITS FOR CONFERENCE.

Motorists’ problems, covered by a •wide range of remits numbering about GO will be fully discussed at the approaching conference of the North Island Motor Union, which is shortly to be in Palmerston North. _ Among the matters to be dealt with are the questions raised by legal cases concerning third party risk and insurance, the duties of pedestrians on highways, and a number of highly important traffic matters. There is reported to be some support for a movement which has as its objective the _ anialgamation or al automobile associations in the North Island into one largo organisation, but this scheme has also some opponents. Automobile service patrol work has already been merged to some extent. The question of the hearing of claims against motorists by assessors in preference to juries is a matter which will receive some consideration at the conference. Three remits are being advanced by the Manawatu Automobile Association ns follow:—fl) That the question ot glaring headlights be reaiscussed. U) That it bo a recommendation to affiliated associations to adopt an up-to-date system for road reports. (3) that jt he a recommendation to each association, that service officers fill m a service docket for all service rendered nnd that in cases where service is iencleiecl to a.member of another association a copy of the docket be sent to the other association in order that a record may be kept of tlm service rendered to each individual member. The proper focussing and adjustment of headlights according to a recognised standard is a matter which is engaging increasing attention, particularly the danger cheated by the car with but one headlight or no tail-light. It has been discussed by the Motor Union previously and representations have been made to’the Commissioner of t ransport. The co-operation of associations is to be sought in devising an even more improved system of. up-to-the-mnmte ro. 1 Information for inquireis- The> thnu remit deals with a routine matter.
