ANNUAL MEETING. MR DERMER RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN. Tlie 30th annual general meeting of shareholders of the Cheltenham Hairy Co. was continued at Feilding yesterday, Mr C. G. C. Dernier, chairman of directors, presiding. Associated with Mr Dernier at the directors’ fable were his co-directors, Messrs N. C. Jensen, F. J. Boddy, J. 'V. Batchclar, J. T. Moar and E. Sinclair, and Messrs P. B. Desmond and J• M. McDonald, secretary and manager respectively. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr Dormer gave a comprehensive review of the season (reported in yesterday’s issue) and in concluding, thanked his lellow directors for their co-operation and assistance, nnd also Messrs Desmond and McDonald for their loyal and careful attention to the company's interests.

The motion for the adoption of the balance-sheet was seconded by Mr J. H. Mason and supported by Mr J. E. Jenkinson, who congratulated the directors oil coming through a difficult year so satisfactorily. Mr Jenkinson asked sonic questions concerning the company’s financial undertakings and tho pig farm, and urged that tlie company engage the services of a qualified veterinary surgeon for the suppliers on a co-operative basis, and also that steps be taken to deal with the “scrub” bull menace.

Mr Desmond replied in explanation of Mr Jenkinson’s queries regarding interest charges on the butter account and pig farm. Mr Sinclair, chairman of the pig farm committee, spoke in reference to the losses of pigs on the farm, stating that tlie company’s had been comparatively small, hut to deal with the sudden increase in the buttermilk supply at tho farm due to tho advent of spring, tire committee was at present obliged to go on to tlie market and buy pigs extensively. Mr Sinclair dealt with other aspects of tho pig farm management and was sure that there were no private farmers who could charge the whole of the charges, depreciation, interest, etc., against tho pigs and only show the small loss the company’s farm had. Replying to Mr A. E. Sandilands, who questioned tho advisability of the company breeding pedigree pigs for sale and so compete with farmers, Mr Sinclair said it had been the policy of the company always to breed its own pigs. The pigs required for tire present day market could not be bought, and it was to obtain these that the breeding of pigs had been instituted. The chairman also pointed out that tho pig farm was entirely a business proposition and if the company was able to sell pedigree pigs surely it was entitled to do so. (Hear, hear). (Several other speakers supported the company’s activities in regard to pedigree pig breeding, Mr H. E. Thurston, the farm manager, pointing out that it cost no more to bring these pedigree pigs to show condition than it did to fatten them.

A discussion took place on the question of advertising the company’s butter in order to stimulate local sales. Mr Baliner, who introduced the subject, said the best known and mast advertised butter was consistently tlie most used. Mr A. Bond urged the need of advertising New Zealand butter at Home. He said New Zealand butter was not so widely known as it should he or as it would be if a more effective system of advertising was undertaken. No further discussion was forthcoming, the motion for tho adoption of the balance sheet being carried. ELECTION OF DIRECTORS. The chairman announced the results of the election of the directors as follows: —Messrs E. Sinclair 432 votes, J. IV. Batchelar 421, W. B. Faulding 259. Messrs Sinclair and Batehelnr were declared elected, both returning thanks. Mr Faulding also thanked his supporters for their confidence.
