TRIAL OF LEADERS. MADRID, Aug. 24. The trial of General Sanjurgo, for whom the Public Prosecutor demands tiie death penalty, and his son and two other officers, for whom life imprisonment is sought, commenced today. Tho capital is agog over the trial, especially in view ot General Sanjurgo’s strong personality and brilliant record. including fighting in Morocco, which earned him tho High Commissionersliip under General do Rivera.
Members of the Cortes have received thousands of telegrams urging; the death penalty, which President Zamora is understood to oppose on principle.
