OTTAWA PACT.

AIEAT INDUSTRY’S DOUBT.

“NO GAINS RECORDED.”

Per Press Association

CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 24. “It is unthinkable that the New Zealand representatives should have agreed to any quota for New Zealand lamb and mutton which places restrictions on these products in favour of foreign countries, or even other Dominions, but no gains for New Zealand are recorded which justify any ground for hope for the expansion of our prices,” said Air AY. Alachin, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand in commenting on the British concessions granted at Ottawa on Dominion primary products.

Mr Alachin said that the really outstanding gains of the conference were the establishment of the convention that trade within the British Empire was a matter of course, not of bargaining, and that all Britons could now prepare for a world discussion 11; the restoration of monetary equilibrium with prices of goods, at the coming Economic Conference in London.

“Although the reports from Ottawa do not tell tho whole story, portions of the agreements are interesting to meat producers, although no benefits to the Dominion are revealed so far. said Mr Alachin.
