BUTTER MARKET.

AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION. The opinion that Australia, not Denmark, was New Zealand’s most dangerous competitor on the English butter market was expressed by Mr C. G. C. Dernier at the annual meeting of the Cheltenham Daily Co. at Feilding to-day. After showing that last year the natural increase of the butter exported from Australia was 154 per cent, against the 52 per cent, of New Zealand, Mr Dernier said that a worse feature than this was that the Australian butter was now so improved in quality that it was- practically equal to that made in New Zealand.

A voice : Well, why did vou send your stud stock over there? (Laughter.) Mr Dernier: They are the only people at present who have the money to buy them.
