PAHTATUA, Aug. 24.
Mr and Mrs F. J. Hill, of Wanganui, visited Pahiatua for the week-end as the guests of Mr and Mrs G. 0. C. Oxley. Mrs J. Davie, of Rongomai, who is an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital, is now making a good recovery. Mrs Dell, of Wellington, is spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs L. Tattle. Mr and Mrs M. Muleahy. Levin, are the guests of Mr and Mrs E. L. Harvov, Mangatainoka. Mise B. Wingfield, Greytown, is spending the term holidays with her father, Mr P. Wingfield. Mrs A. D. Donald was a recent visitor to Wellington. The basketball competition for the G. Harold Smith Shield is finished, Convent Old Girls’ A team being the winners. The team scored 194 goals, and had 31 scored against them. The team have held the Shield sinco it was donated in 1928._ They are also the holders of the Russell "Yankee Tournament Cup, which was given for the competition this year. A very pretty wedding was solemnised recently, at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Pahiatua, by Rev. A. F. Sutherland, when Margery Moore, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Leith, Ilukanui, was married to Herbert Allan, third son of Mr and Jim Donald Mclntosh, Pirinoa, Lower Valley. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was gowned in a long frock of ivory georgette, fitting to the knees and full flair, the corsage being inset with deep V’s of radium lace, finished with a bow of lace at the back. The long fitting sleeves were finished with bows of n-eorgette. Her veil, embroidered with true lovers’ knots, was daintily caught to the head with a coronet of orange blossom A bouquet of frccsias, hyacinths, and maidenhair fern, shoes and gloves to tone completed a dainty toilot. She was attended by hor sisters, Misses Ruby (chief) and Dorothv Leith. Mr C. Mclntosh capably performed the ditties of best nun. Satisfaction with the rosult of the recent fancy dress dance held in aid of tho funds of the Pahiatua District High School was expressed at tho monthly meeting of the school committee. Tho chairman, Mr G. Godfrey Taylor, said that tho net proceeds were £34 12s lOd. The erection of a new bicycle shed at a cost of £9 was authorised. At a meeting of directors of the Nircaha Dairy Co. it was decided to pay the balance to make up Is per pound buttorfat for tho last season. Iho bonus, which will bo paid on tho day of the annual meeting, which will take place at the, end of tho month, will bo Id per pound for all butterfar, supplied during the season. Visitors from Palmerston North, Danno-,-irke and Featherston as well as from all parts’ of the Bush district, attended the BaUance Football Club’s annual dunce. The ball was decorated with bluo and gieen streamers. Extras wero played by Mrs A. E Tait, Miss D. Day and Messrs H. GarHok and K. Hicks. Messrs J Mahunga and H Bengston wore tho M.G. s. During an interval in tile dancing Mr Mahunga and . s sifters sang several Maori songs Ml p H Wilton, the president, congratulated the junior team on winning the Cowan Cup and being runners-up in the chami■ , He also presented Mr J . Humphrey, the captain and coach, with a tobacco pouch. Mr A. Watt, a member o the third grade team, was presented with a medal for the most improved player in the club, and Mr Wilton was the recipient of a propelling pencil.
