FEILDING

S.P.C.A. REPORT. The inspector for the Feilding branch of the S.P.C.A. (Mr C. A. Philip) has made tire following report to the society on the year's work: "Although working at a great disadvantage for the last 18 months on account of lack of funds, the S.P.C.A. is doing its utmost to attend to the many calls and cases, practically by voluntary labour. At this season of the year the bobby calf trade entails a large amount of vigilanco on the part of the society to try to lessen the hardship that is most difficult to avoid before the calves reach the various killing centres. Since this trade was started representations have been made regarding the railway transit—as to the calves at times being held .overnight at centres, and that open wagons be avoided and the calves be conveyed only in doubledeckers, which have more shelter and comfort in tire cold weather. One of the most important hardships the calves have to contend with is that they do not always receive a fair quota of milk before leaving the farm. Consignments of calves that have been examined on arrival by rail overnight showed that they had left the farm according to requirements, well fed for three days. Others had been neglected and were wealc and miserable. With the improved conditions in the calf lorries overcrowing is greatly obviated. A Bill might bo introduced into Parliament to compel the feeding of the calves, as it appears that the lack of food is the greatest hardship they have to undergo." A report on general cases dealt with was added. AERO CLUB ACTIVITIES. The Feilding Aero Club promises an exciting week-end to Feilding and district residents by the possible attendance on Sunday of five aeroplanes at the aerodrome at Parorangi. The fascination of watching aeroplanes "stunt" attracts both young and old, and with the attendance of some wellknown acrobatic exponents, those present at the aerodrome on Sunday may look for something thrilling in aerial displays. Passenger tlights will be undertaken also and, as advertised in this issue, three 'planes will be at the Feilding racecourse on Saturday afternoon, in addition to Sunday's programme, to give passenger flights.
