SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNTS. RAILWAYS IN AUSTRALIA. FIGURES FOR PAST YEAR, (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 24, 9.45 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 24. Tho Herald says that it is learned from official sources that tho railway deficit for tho year ended Juno 6 last was about £4,500,000. Tho South Australian railways showed a profit of £612,337 on tho actual working operations for tho year, but a deficit of £910,636 when tho interest charges are taken into account.
