Air Henry Hooper Holmden, one of the first officers of the Bank ot New Zealand, died at the home of his son, Dr. H. E. Holmden, Auckland, on Alondav. He was 86 years of age. The late Air Holmden joined the bank on its inception at Auckland in 1861. When a branch was opened in Dunedin in December of that year he was transferred there. AN bile in Dunedin All- Holmden helped to date an issue of notes which were later not accepted as legal tender because they were dated a Sunday. He served for many vears in Otago goldfield towns, and also at Tirnaru and Nelson. He retired in 1906.

Rev. F. H. Spencer, the son of a pioneer missionary among the Alaoris, died in Auckland at the week-end. Entering the Church, he was trained at Bishopdale, Nelson. He spent a few years in church work in England. Ou his return to New Zealand he took up church work, both among the. Europeans and Alaoris, the latter chiefly in Rotorua. Later he moved to AA'anganui in 1897, and there received the appointment of agent to the British and Foreign Bible Society. Oil retiring from this work he moved to Auckland, where his first wife died in 1924. Later, he married Aliss AI. AI. Pulleine, and returned to Rotorua.
