THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST.
The recent depression has passed away eastward and an anti-cyclone is advancing over the Tasman Sea, with its centre to the north. A depression is now moving on to South-Eastern Australia. Winds moderate to fresh southerly north of Westport and Ivaikoura; elsewhere variable. Winds tending westerly, and later north-westerly in and south of Cook Strait. Seas: A considerable southerly swell north of Farcfwell Spit and Akaroa ; otherwise smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Moderate south to west winds in the eastern Tasman Sea and moderate seas. Still some passing showers between East Cape and Kaikoura, but improving, and otherwise fair to fine. DISTRICT REPORT. The Government meteorologist wired to-day -.—The indications are for westerly winds, moderate to strong and backing by west to south at times. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather, with some scattered showers. The barometer has a rising tendency. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —3ft.
