Mr F. W. Dawson, assistant general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, left Wellington for Auckland on Fri : day evening. He will join the Aorangi en route for Fiji. , The condition of Mr James Stewart, of Cheltenham, who was admitted to the Hospital with serious injuries sustained when Ire was struck by a motorcar on Friday, was reported to-day to be very low.
A cablegram from Seattle states that Mr Fred Birks, of Sydney, New South Wales, was named as second vice-presi-dent at tbo Rotary International meeting of directors, following the adjournment of the convention. The death occurred at Masterton on Saturday of Mr Charles Vivian Yates, for the past ten years secretary of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust. In addition to Iris association with the Trust Lands Trust since 1922, Mr Yates was secretary of the Workers’ Mutual Benefit Building Society, and was for some time acting-secretary of the Masterton Racing Club. He was a member for many years and secretary for three years of the Oddfellows’ Lodge. He was also a member of the Masterton Bowling Club There passed away at Carterton at the age of 83 years on Saturday, Mr Ralph Robert Armstrong, a well-known settler. He was born in Wellington and went to Carterton in the ’seventies. He was a saddler by occupation, being in business for himself, retiring in 1086. From 1880 to 1887 he was secretary to the Wairarapa Jockey Club, now the Wairarapa Racing Club, and was one of the foundation members of the Wairarapa and East Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Society, being a life member. Mr Armstrong was registrar of electors for the Wairarapa electoral district from 1900 to 1924, and later returning officer.
