The origin of the movement to commemorate Sir Thomas Sidey’s efforts dates from the passing of the Act in 1927. As the result of shilling donations throughout the country a sum of £SOO was raised. This was handled by a Summertime Committee in Wellington, and it was' later handed over to the New Zealand Institute, which was asked to devise a method forspending it usefully. Sir Thomas himself, who will be present at the function to-day, has contributed £l2O toward tho cost of the medal.
