RELIEF WORKERS’ STRIKE

DEPUTATION TO AIINISTER. EFFORTS FOR SETTLEAIENT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Alay 19. It is definitely understood that 50 per oent. of the relief workers are working, and it is considered that in the interests of those who are out the strike should be called off as it is realised the men who are standing out are being penalised unfairly by the number who have returned to work. An official statement from Air Fraser, chairman of the strike committee, is that Air Coates received a deputation and the pros and cons of bringing about a satisfactory settlement were gone, into. Mr Coates was thanked for the way, in which he had received tho deputation.

The settlement of the Christchurch relief workers’ strike is dependant on a statement expected to-morrow from th'o Alinister or Employment in reply to certain demands made by the representatives of tho men. Meanwhile most of tho relief operations are proceeding without a hitch.
