MONTHLY MEETING. teaching Staff changes. The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held yesterday, Mr E. F. He/ningway presiding. Others present were Messrs 'Yvoodroore, Tingey, Coleman, Dukeson,’ Uram, Aitken and Adams. Leave of absence was granted Mr Hornblow. The board passed a resolution of sympathy with Hon. R. Masters in the death of his, father. “The number of teachers on tne general relieving staff, w ’k®n the schools closed for the term holidays, was 32. Of these 11 are acting as additional assistants,”; stated the monthly report of the chairman. The following teachers have resigned since last meeting: —Miss V. E. Perry, soe teacher, Orangmea ; .Miss K. A. Battle, head teacher, Ivopane; Aliss M. It. Long sole teacher, Rata-iti.’ Confirmation of the following appointments was reported: Palmerston North Central, J. .Connor, assistant; Umumuri, C. McGradie, assistant; Carnarvon, 0. S. Wellard, assistant; College Street, B. J. Watkins, infant mistress; Castlecliff, B. V. Daws assistant; Turakina, N. Cornwall, infant mistress; Kairanga, V. I. Montgomery, assistant; Umumuri, F. Cummins, head teacher. . , “Excluding teachers in charge ot grade 0 schools, there are now 107 teachers without permanent positions, stated the report of the chairman. “At the beginning of next term those teachers who were employed during the first term as “rationed” teachers will stand down, and tlieir placGS will D 0 taken by teachers who have had no employment this year. The total number of temporary positions available will be 52. Assuming that we can maintain a relieving staff of, say 10, we will be able to provide employment during the second term for 6/ of the unemployed teachers, leaving 40 without employment. The grading ot a number of the teachers who are not permanently employed is now’ sufficiently high to enable them to secure permanent appointments, and we may, therefore, expect to see several names removed from the list during the coming term.”
