Hon. Sir George Fowlds, of Auckland (chairman of the Massey Agriculture Collego Council) is visiting Palmerston North.
Mr L. J. Cronin, who several years ago was connected with the Palmerston North newspapers, has been appointed editor of the New Zealand Tablet.
The death occurred recently at Lower Hutt at the ago of 47 years of Mr Douglas Nelson Edwards, who for many years resided at Pahiatua and later at Masterton. The death occurred in Stratford last night of Mr Jonas Masters, aged 76, founder of the firm of Masters, Ltd., and father of Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education.
Captain G. E. Warner, R.N.R., late commander of the White Star liner Olympic, is making a tour of New Zealand. He will leave Auckland by the Mataroa on May 28 for England. Mr Frederick James Lawrence, who died at Hamilton a fow days ago, aged 91 years, had memories oh the Crimean War, being a boy on a collier at Sebastapol when the last shot was fired and he saw the Russian flag pulled down from the fort at Sebastopol and replaced by the Union Jack and the French Tricolour. Later he joined the navy, and saw service in China and on coming to New Zeal&ud served in the Maori War.
