THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. An intense anti-cyclone is centred in the south Tasman Sea, and extends from eastern Australia to beyond New Zealand. A slight depression is passing east of Norfolk Island. Winds variable -with southerly to south-oast-erly prevailing, light to moderate geneally, but fresh to strong in the far north. Seas rather rough north of East Cape; elsewhere smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Light to moderate south-east winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, and smooth to moderate seas. Weather fine in most districts, but some showers still likely in North Auckland and at isolated places in the Bav of Plenty and Gisborne districts. Cold night temperatures with many frosts, especially in the South Island. DISTRICT REPORT. FAVOURABLE PROSPECTS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for variable and moderate breezes, moderate southerly winds prevailing. There is a prospect of fine weather, days bright and nights cold. The barometer will be rising slowly shortly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —3ft 3ins.
