AT New Brighton on Saturday the Pioneer Sports Club conducted a series of Beach Races at which some very fine performances were registered, especially those by the two Singer Juniors. These Singer Juniors were conceding big handicaps to cars of much greater horse-power, and the ease with which they won was most convincing. In the' first handicap of eight muos J. R. Tench, in a Singer Junior, secured first place and fastest time from scratch, while a Singer Junior was placed second. In the second handicap of eight miles a Singer Junior, driven by J. R. Tench, was again successful, gaining second place from scratch. In this'race the,car driven Dy J. R. Tench attained the amazing speed of 80 miles per hour. When it is tairen into consideration that the beach is usually considered to be 10 miles an hour slower than the road, this is indeed an outstanding performance for an eight-horse-power car. It is even more meritorious because tho Singer was a 1929 touring chassis which has already given 30,000 miles of service during four years on the road. This clearly demonstrates the high quality of metals used in the construction of the Singer and also the high standard of efficiency to which English engineers have built this car to register such outstanding performances. The local agents must be more than satisfied with the performances of the Singer Junior in competition this season as they liavo won almost every reliability trial, hill climb, and beach race in which they have competed.
