TEMPORARY POLICE.
CONDITIONS AT CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. Declaring that he had informed the authorities of his willingness to appeal for assistance from the community in case of disorder in the city and had not-yet received an answer, the Mayor, Mr Sullivan, narrated to the Christchurch City Council the steps he had taken in connection with the establishment of an auxiliary police force. The discussion arose out of a motion moved by Cr. Baker thanking the temporary police for their services. It was not carried, but was referred to the finance committee so that a resolu- - tion acceptable to every councillor could be framed by it.
