BALTIC SENSATION

T * SEIZURE OF DANZIG PLANNED. ELEVENTH HOUR INTERVENTION POLISH CONFLICT WITH GERMANY INVOLVED, (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, May 2. There are sensational reports that Poland is plotting to seize Danzig, the free port on tho Baltic Sea controlled by tlie League of Nations. The Geneva correspondent of the Daily Express says that Poland has completed plans for the seizure of Danzig, and but for the eleventh hour intervention of France the Polish fleet Would already liavo sailed into Danzig harbour and thus brought about a direct conflict between Germany and Poland. The Daily Herald’s correspondent at Danzig confirms the statement that preparations were made for the seizure of the port. Ho says that eight warships were ready in Dgyina harbour, eight miles distant, but the raid was called off owing to urgent warnings from Geneva. The correspondent is of the opinion that if conflict between Germany and Poland arises, Russia on the one side and France on the other, would not be able to hold aloof. Poland’s only access to tho North Sea ’at present is by means of the socalled “corridor,” a. strip of territory given to Poland by the ’treaty of Versailles. The “corridor” cuts off from the rest of Germany a small portion of East Prussia, of which the chief town is Konigsberg. i
