AIR PILOT’S INJURY.
SHOOTING AT MIAMI. MRS KEITH MILLER INVOLVED. Received April 22, 8.50 a.m. NEW YORK, April 21. A message from Miami, Florida, states that Mrs Keith Miller, the wellknown aviatrix, who has been associated with prominent flights, and Cap tain Lancaster, who is equally wellknown—the3' are both Australians —are held in the county gaol for an investigation into the .shooting of Mr liaden Clark, an aeroplane pilot. Statements given to the police by the two ascribed a wound in Mr Clark’s head to an attempt at suicide. Mrs Miller said that she was awakened shortly before daylight by Captain Lancaster, who told her that Mr Clark had shot himself. She said that sho went with Captain Lancaster to where Mr Clink’s body la3 T and saw a pistol under the bod 3". Captain Lancaster said that he and Mr Clark retired to the porch where they slept at about 12.45 a.iq.: “We talked about an hour of home troubles and several other things,” added Captain Lancaster. “I was awakened by a report some time later and heard Mr dark making funny noises. I turned on the light: his face was covered with blood, and ho was l3’ing on his side. I ran to Mrs Miller’s room and got her up.” Later, Captain Lancaster called a physician and an attorne3 T . Mr Clark was taken to hospital. Mrs Clark, the mother of the injured man, said that the police showed her a typewritten note to Mrs Miller, which said: “I cannot stand the economic pressure. Will you please sustain my mother in her deep grief.” Mrs Clark said that she could not be sure that the signature was that of her son, but sho expressed the opinion that he shot himself.
