CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR

DOMINION ACTIVITIES. The New Zealand Christian Endeavour Union held its second biennial meeting at Auckland this week, ltev. Lionel B. Fletcher presiding. Christian Endeavour Unions were represented from Invercargill, Dunedin, Christchurch, Nelson, Wellington, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Auckland. The secretary’s report showed that there were now 14 unions in the Dominion. The membership of these unions comprised 240 societies, with 5632 members. In addition to these, in 1930 the Samoan Christian Endeavour societies, numbering 153, with 6000 members, applied for affiliation with the New Zealand Union, which made the total strength in the union 393 societies, with 10,632 members. The New Zealand societies were in the various denominations, as follow:—Baptist, 80; Methodist, 64: Congregational, 34; Church of Christ, 33; Presbyterian, 17; Interdenominational, 10; Anglican, 1; Brethren, 1. The examination for the diploma of Christian endeavour export, set in London, has been passed by 103 New Zealanders. Rev. Knowles Ivempton, Rev; A. S. AVilson and others spoke of the great inspiration the presence and work of Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher had had upon the movement during his eight years in the Dominion. The following officers were elected: — President, Rev. A. N. Seotter (Palmerston North); vice-presidents, Rev. H. K. Kempton, Mr K. Melvin, Revs. A. S. AA'ilson and T, Miller (Dunedin), R. Richards (Nelson) and Bernard M. AVilson (Christchurch); secretary-treas-urer, Mr Noel Carless; New Zealand superintendent of junior societies, Rev. B. M. AVilson; New Zealand superintendent of intermediate societies, Miss V. Jarvis; New Zealand superintendent of country societies, Mr A. T. Vinson; New Zealand superintendent of senior societies, Mrs Fred. Massam; minute secretary, Miss G. Massam; press reporter, Rev. A. S. AA’ilson. The treasurer’s reports showed that the receipts for the two years had been £461 and there was a debit balance of £1 8s Bd.

The extension account is an attempt inaugurated by Mr Fletcher to raise £IOOO as a backing for the movement, and so far £lßl 13s has been raised.
