GLEN OROUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) GLEN OROUA, April 20. The. final meeting of tho retiring school committee was held in tho school room on Monday evening, all the members being present, and also tho head teacher. It was decided to make a grant of £1 towards the cost of improving and deepening the Sandhill drain, which flows from Mr A. Sanson’s property through tho school horso paddock. Mr Sanson had incurred considerable expense in connection with the drain, and a 3 the committee had benefited through the work it was considered that a certain proportion of tho cost should be borne by the committee. Accounts totalling £1 13s 4d were passed for payment and tho meeting terminated.
There was an exceptionally good attendance at the annual meeting of householders, and several apologies for absence were received. On the motion of Mr Gimblett, seconded by Mr Farland, it was unanimously agreed that Mr W. Boswell should take tho chair. Mr Boswell called upon Mr W. Wallace, tho retiring secrotary, to read the minutes of tho previous annual meeting, and these wore confirmed. The annual report and balance-sheet were then presented, and, there being no discussion on these, a voto of thanks was accorded the teachers for the fino c work done both in and out of school during tho year. Mr Parlane (head teacher) responded on behalf of Miss Phillips and himself, thanking the meeting for their expression of goodwill, and assuring them that tho teachers would continuo to do their best in every way. Mr L. H. Ihle, tho auditor, was accordod a voto of thanks. The secretary stated that Mr Ihle had at times gone to a great deal of trouble for tho committee and his many kindnesses were greatly appreciated. Mr Gimblett congratulated the committeo on tho very comprehensive report and tho satisfactory poeition indicated hy tho balance-sheet. A general discussion took place regarding tho cost of Bchool books, and the proposed raising of tho school ago to six years. It wan docided to support tho Auckland School Committees’ Association in their efforts to obtain cheaper books, and tho New Zealand Educational Institute in their petition opposing the Government’s proposal regarding children under six. Thirteen nominations for membership of tho now committeo were received, and as a result of the ballot the following gentlemen were olccted: Messrs W. C. Scott, W. A. Boswell. P. H. Earland, J. F. Nolan, and J. Herdman. Mr Hordman is tho only new member of tho committeo. A voto of thanks 'to tho outgoing committeo was carried, Mr W. Wallace, tho retiring secretary, being specially mentioned for tho excellent work he had done during tho past three years. At a subsequent meeting Mr W. Boswell was re-elected chairman, and Mr W. Scott was appointed secretary. Tho membors of tho committeo decided to meet at the school on Wednesday morning to carry out work in connection with tho water pipes and cisterns of the septic tank. Tho matter of repairs or renewals of tho school gates was held over until tho next meeting It was agreed that meetings bo held on tho third Monday m each month (at 7 p.m. during tho vyinter).
